Eugenio Suárez, Venezuela's third baseman and current Arizona Diamondbacks infielder, has frequently credited his Christian faith following standout baseball performances, including pointing skyward after home runs and big hits.[1][2]
Suárez represented Venezuela in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, where the team went 3-2 in Pool D at loanDepot park in Miami, Florida, defeating Puerto Rico 6-5 on March 14 before a 9-7 quarterfinal loss to the United States on March 15.[3][4]
The quarterfinal featured U.S. players including Bryce Harper and Garrett Whitlock, with Venezuela held to seven runs on 11 hits.[3][4]
Venezuela has competed in every WBC since 2006, with a best finish of fourth place in 2009 after semifinal and third-place losses.[5]
