Former San Jose State volleyball player Brooke Slusser's TikTok account restored after temporary ban

Brooke Slusser, a former co-captain of the San Jose State University women's volleyball team in the NCAA Division I Mountain West Conference, had her TikTok account temporarily suspended after posting videos discussing her experiences sharing a team and apartment with transgender teammate Blaire Fleming.[1][2]
Screenshots provided by Slusser to Fox News Digital showed notifications labeling the account as "permanently banned" for alleged violations of TikTok's community guidelines, including a failed appeal. The account was restored on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, following publication of the report.[1]
Slusser stated she was unaware of her teammate's birth sex at the time and alleged that head coach Todd Kress encouraged the shared living arrangement.[1][2]
The posts followed heightened attention to the SJSU volleyball program, where the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights (OCR) determined on January 26, 2024, that the university violated Title IX by failing to address complaints from female athletes regarding a transgender player's participation.[3][4]
The OCR findings included that SJSU did not adequately investigate reports of misconduct by the transgender athlete and retaliated against a complainant for misgendering in public statements.[3]
On February 16, 2024, San Jose State University and the California State University system filed a federal lawsuit challenging the OCR investigation, seeking to rescind the findings and prevent potential loss of federal funding.[2][4][5]
SJSU President Don Belton Teniente-Matson stated the university followed the law and supports its LGBTQ community members.[2]
The 2023 SJSU women's volleyball team, which included Fleming, won the Mountain West Conference tournament title despite forfeits by several opponents citing concerns over the transgender player's participation.[4][5]
